The 2-day training mini-camp will feature local legislators to share their experiences and introduce high school and college students to methods of political research and to prepare them to become informed and involved citizens who will make positive changes to communities.

 

Students will learn how local governments work as well as the skills and resources to advocate for their communities on various local and state issues. Mentors will present issues facing the local community and lead small group research and discussions. 

 

At the end of the mini-camp, students have the opportunity to join study groups of their choice. From mid-July to September, the study groups will meet weekly with mentors to research and study the chosen topic. There will also be bi-weekly YAPA meetings for study groups to share their progress with each other where local legislators and civic leaders to attend to provide feedback.
